Why So Many Arizona Homes Have Tile Flooring

Have you ever wondered why so many Arizona homes have tile flooring throughout the majority of the home? Well, Arizona is known for a number of things: the Grand Canyon, hot summers, and unique homes. What makes our Arizona homes so unique? For starters, not many other states have homes made out of stucco, whereas here, it is by far one of the most popular building materials. Secondly, unlike other states, it is rare to see a home without a pool. All of that has to do with the outside of the home so let’s bring it inside for a second. Flooring. The majority of Arizona homes have tile flooring as opposed to some of the other popular choices such as hardwood and carpet. Have you ever wondered why this is?

Cleanup and Temperature

While there are a number of factors that go into it, one of the biggest reasons Arizona homes have tile flooring as opposed to other materials is because of the fact that Arizona is a desert. What are deserts made up of? Dirt, sand and dust. That being said, if your entire home is covered in carpeting or hardwood floors that have grains for dust to work its way into, the cleaning and upkeep will be a nightmare.

Tile can be sealed and is extremely easy to clean. If a dust storm rolls on through, which let’s be honest, in Arizona it is sure to, a simple clean with the Swiffer Duster or a mop and some soapy water will do the trick. There will be no need to get down on your hands and knees and scrub in the cracks or have your carpets professionally cleaned to get rid of the dust.

As we mentioned above, Arizona is also known for its hot summers. When it is 100+ degrees outside, walking around on carpet will not sound appealing. However, walking around on a tile floor that keeps cool with the air conditioning sure will!

That all being said, there are plenty of homes that have carpet, hardwood, laminate and other flooring materials here in the Valley of the Sun. It is your home and your choice. There are pros and cons no matter which way you look at it, so choosing a flooring material that you are drawn to and that will work into your budget, as well as your homes’ style is what is of the utmost importance!
